Great black and white film, fair price
This film is the best black and white film for 35mm. It’s hard to mess up when developing yourself if you have basic skills. Everything about this film is made to work easily and seamlessly when you have just the basic abilities. That’s why it’s a great film for students and professionals alike. This is a good price for 5 rolls as well. Comparable to photo supply stores.

Best value in B/W film.
HP5 is my go to film for walking around and photographing whatever. Many, including yours truly, find it becomes more exciting when pushed. I found it to be one of the most reliable, flexible, and, when properly exposed, beautiful films ever produced. Ilford films are finicky. Outside in sun I expose at 200. at dusk, it's sublime pushed to 800. Ilford's version of Tri X, I suppose. I like both, but Ilford is less prone to reticulation, more routinely yields great results, and is just as beautiful as Tri X in the hands of a skilled artist.

HP-5 Iis an excellent film.
Once upon a time, not that long ago, there were many excellent black-and-white films. most of them are gone. They were rich with silver and had rich tonal capabilities. Now, chemicals and films are scarce and expensive. HP-5 is one of the survivors with good grain structure, film speed, and tonal range. Ilford continues to offer quality products that make continuing to use archaic processes worth doing. HP-5 is an important product for quality black-and-white photography.

Great mid range black and white film
Shoots much like the 35mm equivalent, at medium light levels, not too bright or dark, great for overcast or well lit indoor shots. Only a slight amount of grain, it can give some really remarkable shots.

New to Medium format? HP5 should be your first film
HP5 is incredibly forgiving, easy to work with, and has amazing grain. For the price, it is also incredibly competitive, and I highly recommend learning how to shoot medium format, especially if you are also testing out a new camera (ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY for older TLRS, Bellow based cameras, and cameras that have not been serviced and tested for you) since it is a bit cheaper and is very easy to work with. I'm mainly a color film photographer, but this is a great BW film, especially for the price.
