If Only Life Worked Like This
This book was kind of a slow burn. It starts in the middle then takes you back to the beginning. I actually enjoyed that in this instance. I thought the characters were interesting, developed enough for this book and entertaining in a lot of places. Of course, I had an inkling that some bits were coming, but several times I second guessed myself because things weren't happening.Overall I liked the book and would recommend it with one caveat. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. I say a bit because you can infer what happens and make that your happy ending or you can move on to the second and third books. Based on the descriptions there are lots more ups and downs to come but I'd rather assume "they all lived happily ever after" rather than go on the roller coaster again. Great book though.

Her love life goes off the rails at about the same time.As she sinks into a deep depression, she makes a series of bad decisions that upend her life in surprising ways.In the midst of the havoc, she begins to redefine who she is and what she wants from life. There are times when this book really sparkles and you will find yourself smiling at the heroines antics.Try it, you'll like it.

Good, read the I heart series then you will love this book as well
I love the I heart series, almost as much if not better then the shopaholic series by Sophie kinsella. That being said I own all of Lindsey kelk's books and Sophie Kinsella even under hr other name Madeline Wickham. This book was not better then those series I found it took me a while to get into this book probably because I just finished the I heart Christmas one and I wanted more lolThis is the first book out of 2. The second one I a, reading now and I love it! Better then the first. It's likea TV series. The first season isn't always great but the next is awesome as you already know the characters.

Good Book the sexual content wasn't for me
Good Book the sexual content wasn't for me. It was sometimes hard understand because of the United Kingdom language for some words. I sometimes had a hard time getting through a chapter. the next chapter I couldn't put it down.

Lindsey does it again!
I continue to love Lindsey Kelk's books! I'm not sure why I waited so long to read About A Girl after devouring her I Heart Series. I loved everything about this book - except the cliffhanger of an ending (luckily I recently won the second book in this series through Goodreads, so I'll be reading that soon).I don't want to give away too much. I felt like I was right there with Tess, and enjoying Hawaii right along with her. If you enjoyed the I Heart Series, you will thoroughly enjoy reading About A Girl.

Loved this book!
Well written, with good editing! Found myself laughing on almost every page, even as I sympathized with main character Tess’s ability to imagine disaster at every turn. Interesting people and a great read.

Lindsey is back!
I first discovered Lindsey Kelk as I was walking through the busy airport waiting to board my plane, many, many years ago. This is when I discovered my love for Angela and the I heart series. When I heard Lindsey was bringing out a new book - About A Girl, I knew it was one I needed to read. With that I grabbed myself a copy, and was lucky enough to win an invite with Lindsey for brunch in London, here I found out more about Tess, in About a Girl, a lot more about Nick and the setting in Hawaii. (Now this is my top place to visit after reading the book!) You can read about my brunch with Lindsey on my blog: Mrsbbooks2011.blogspot.co.ukTess is successful, she has never done the marriage and kids bit, but her career is going from strength to strength and she has just been told she has been given a promotion. Life couldn't be better, (unless we talk about the fact she has been in love for the last years with her best mate!) That is until she gets called into the boss's office to be told they are letting her go. - How can they be letting her go when she hasn't even started her new job? Tess cannot believe it, everything she has ever worked for just gone? Her other best friend Amy is round hers as soon as she finds out what has happened to Tess, luckily Tess's flatmate (Vanessa) isn't in, she is off on a shoot somewhere - she is a fashion photographer. Amy and Vanessa do not get go, and never have. Things seem to go from bad to worse for Tess over the next few days, so when an opportunity turns up that sounds much better than her life at the moment what has she got to lose? This is a brilliantly written, witty read. Lindsey Kelk writes so well, her ability to put so much humour in her books while still keeping the story line good is a talent in itself. She comes out with some brilliant one liners that actually have you laughing out loud! This is a fantastic summer read, I was only sad that it was over so quickly. This is defiantly one for your bookshelf as it is a book you would want to read again and again. I was so pleased when I heard there will be a sequel to About a Girl, the characters are great, the story line it great. It's just a shame we have to wait so long to read it!For this review and more please visit:Mrsbbooks2011.blogspot.co.uk

Just as good as the I Heart series!
Lindsey is the author of the fabulous "I Heart" series which follows the adventures of Angela and her beautiful man Alex. One of the things I love most about Lindsey's writing style is how funny her characters are and there was no shortage of this here. I can pretty much guarantee that if you enjoyed the "I Heart" series you will enjoy this.About A Girl is all about a girl called Tess. Tess's work is her life but it just been ripped out from under her and couple that with a horrendous boy related faux pas we find Tess borrowing her flatmate's name, job and clothes to jet off to Hawaii to escape her reality for a bit. When she arrives at the job, to photograph an iconic fashion king, she meets arrogant journo Nick with a chip the size of the other fifty US States on his shoulder.I really liked Tess right from the start. She worked hard trying to please everyone, her mother, her best friends, and her horrible flatmate. But just this once she is determined to escape from pleasing everyone and try someone else's Louboutins on for a while. I've already mentioned this but I love how funny Lindsey's characters are. I think it makes them real and endearing so you can't help but love them. Tess is no exception, and she also has a bit of a pash for Ryan Gosling. When we first meet Nick properly he is acting like an arrogant, assuming, know it all prat. He really is not the man we see in the prologue, but you know what they say about the love of a good woman! He's fit but pig-headed, and at times he shows a softer more confused side of his bruised little soul. I kind of imagined him like a young Hugh Grant but hotter, like Patrick Dempsey - he definitely had floppy hair in my mind anyway! The story is set in Hawaii, a place I've never been but the beautiful description of the lush surroundings completely offsets the almost manic goings on in Tess's mind bringing a balance to the story.I really enjoyed it and although I didn't know this at the time there is a sequel! Best book news as the story finishes on a will she won't she note. Look out for What A Girl Wants to find out what happens to Tess next.Erin x

Got it, loved it, can't wait for book no two!
I have to say I was a bit worried that Lindsey wouldn't be able to pull off another set of characters after her really successful I Heart series. I am pleased to say I needn't have worried. The characters were totally different from Angela, Jenny and Co. Tess is a character lost and unsure where she is headed and appears to have a bit of an identity crisis. I was guessing a bit and I really couldn't get enough of this book. Definitely an easy read and full of great characters. So looking forward to the next installment.Well done Lindsey Kelk!

Fabulous summery read with extra dose of laughter!
Lindsey is back with a brand new book and a brand new character! Having devoured the I Heart... series I could not wait to embark on Tess Brookes' adventure. I was not disappointed!Tess has had her life planned out from a young age. She had spent 7 years carving out her career path to Creative Director when she is sacked unceremoniously with absolutely no warning. To escape the mess that has become of her life, Tess jets off to Hawaii under her flatmate's name and takes on her photography job. How hard can it be to play the part of Vanessa and take a few pictures? Tess is about to find out!Tess finds herself in beautiful Hawaii with breathtaking scenery and a new gay best friend - Kekipi, who is the perfect guy to show her the sights. However not all is perfect, she has to work with an arrogant journalist, Nick, who knows exactly what buttons to press to get her riled up. Can Tess resist Nick's advances and stay strictly professional on the job?I thought Tess was a really great character. I sympathised with her when her life fell apart and I thought it took real guts to take a step away from her life and go to Hawaii - even if she did take her flatmate's place! I laughed when she laughed, I cried when she cried and I felt I was completely involved in her story. She was such a funny character and I found this really refreshing.Nick was such an arse! I wanted to punch him at first for being an arrogant pig but in the end who doesn't love a bad boy?! As more and more layers of this gorgeous man are revealed, I warmed to him and I really liked what was inside his steely interior.Lindsey has created another stunning book. The one liners were hilarious and I found myself laughing out loud in a variety of situations. Hawaii was such a stunning place and I felt that Lindsey described the location amazingly. I could clearly imagine the soft white sand and the turquoise blue sea. A brilliant summer read which I will be recommending to all my friends. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

Hanging Question Marks
This book, as expected was funny and quirky. I was unsure whether Kelk would be able to pull of a new character with such aplomb but she has done it in style. Some facets of the story were to me, slightly off the wall and hard to believe, but hey that's why we read books, to get into the fantasy world of our characters.I've only given this book 4 stars for the simple reason that the hanging question marks drove me nuts. This book has been produced by a professional publishing company and I would therefore expect a professional presentation. If anyone from the publishing company actually reads the reviews left for this book it would be appreciated if this issue was resolved. As the ending of the book has been left hanging like the question marks, I would hope that the sequel is finished off with more care.

Enjoyable but predictable.
I did enjoy reading about Tess' exploits but knew within a couple of chapters what the outcome would be. I don't think that this detracted from the story, however. I also appreciated the fact that the intimate scenes were left to one's imagination rather than being described in unnecessary detail. Thanks for that, Lyndsey Kelk.

About A Girl
I was very nervous about reading this book, like many Lindsey Kelk fans I love the I heart series, but I needn't have worried. I fell in love with this book just as quickly as I did the I heart series. Lindsey has a way of creating characters which you fall in love with and want to learn more about. You feel as if you know these people already and it is always exciting to read about their adventures. #TeamNick for me. I can't wait to get started on the next book "What a Girl Wants" and find out what happened next

Fabulous
I can't count how many times I woke the hubby up laughing out loud. Some absolutely brilliant dialogue. Genuinely one of the best, and funniest, books I have read in a long time. I will be looking for from this author.Read and enjoy. I am sure you will.

Loved, loved, loved this book!!
I won't go in to too much detail about the storyline as I know other reviewers have already done that so it saves me a job, but I always feel compelled to write a review when I read a book that I just love. And this was one of those books.I totally loved Tess, the main character and desperately wish she was my friend in real life. She was lovely, but ever so slightly mad (talks to toasters and other inanimate objects!) after her life goes haywire. Which I am sure some of us girls can relate to! The love interests couldn't be more different and I found myself totally switching sides half way through and rooting for love interest number two (sounds hot, also wish I knew him in real life ;-))I laughed out loud, chuckled, and smirked my way through this book in one sitting. If you like chicklit with fun characters and a great story, then download this book right now! Do it!

OK
I liked this book but not as much as the other by the same author, A Single Girl's To Do List. It wasn't as funny. Some parts were good and others dragged. The start was slow but it picked up when she got to Hawaii. The ending was a tad abrupt but I guess it was a 'to be continued...' ending.I will probably read the follow up book, but not right away. I need a break from reading about female characters wondering around in a t-shirt and knickers!!! (it happens a lot)

Great fun!
Really enjoyed this light hearted tale. Doesn't everyone dream of packing a bag and escaping!? It was a fun read but showed that there comes a time for decisions to be made. Recommend this for a great holiday read.

So Slow
I very much enjoyed the 'I heart' series, and so I was really looking forward to reading this. But it is so slow. I'm on chapter seven, and nothing much has happened except that Vanessa (Tess) is now on location. I haven't reached a point where I care what happens next. And I know I could more or less write the ending myself . I'm not sure if I'll push on with this. And I'm reading all the 5 star reviews and thinking, (am I missing something?) So by all means take no notice of my review, and try this book for yourself.

Fun girly holiday read
I have liked Lindsey Kelk's books for several years now, but have only read the I Heart.. series before so I was worried that About A Girl might not be quite as good. At first, I though this was indeed the case as the first chapter is a little trashy and doesn't have quite the same voice or wit as her other works, but I kept at it and really enjoyed it.The characters were likeable, the setting was great (perfect for taking you away to a dreamy Hawaiian island), and the storyline was fun. I did end up guessing all the 'twists' before they were actually revealed, and this book does nothing groundbreaking, but it is a fun an feel-good read.
